The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit professional association with 127,000 members in 145 countries engaged in the exploration and production of oil and gas and related energy resources.

SPE is a community. We are a group of individuals connected by a common industry, complementary technical skills, and common interests. We come together to share our knowledge and our experience, to learn new things, to engage with friends and colleagues, and to give back to our profession. We do this through our events, our publications, and our online communities. We write papers and make presentations, we serve on committees, we network, we mentor, we volunteer, and we give back to the communities where we live.

The Ahmadu Bello University SPE Student Chapter, officially recognized as Chapter Number 6350 and affiliated with the SPE Abuja Section 199, is a dedicated student-led organization committed to advancing the knowledge and professional development of students in the oil, gas, and energy sectors. We strive to accomplish SPE's mission to provide unparalleled insights, shared expertise, and life-long learning at the local level here in Zaria. As of 3rd January, 2024, we have a membership size of 564 members encompassing students from various departments and faculties across Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. contact us for more information.

FACULTY ADVISOR

Engr. Suleiman Muhammed Shuwa (PhD), widely known as Dr S.M. Shuwa, is an Associate Professor (Reader) of Chemical Engineering and a dedicated researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria.

He is actively engaged in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, contributing to community service, and advancing research and development. His research interests include applied catalysis, heavy crude oil upgrading, enhanced oil recovery, the development of new classes of green solvents for chemical process applications, and bentonite development for drilling purposes. With expertise in enhanced oil recovery, petroleum exploration, petroleum geoscience, and natural gas analysis, Dr. Shuwa has made significant contributions to his field. He has published over 41 research papers in reputable journals, further solidifying his impact in academia and industry.
